Not many people readily admit that they have Colitis or Crohn's Disease so it may surprise you that around 180,000 people in the UK suffer from one of these conditions. Add to this the number of family and friends whose lives may be affected by their loved ones developing these illnesses and the total number of people affected is considerable.
The most common age for diagnosis is between 15 and 35 years of age and the average young adult or teenager doesn't want to discuss these symptoms with their friends or family. This means that many young people are trying to cope alone with their incurable illness when they are already facing challenges such as day to day living, relationships for the first time, going to university and building careers and whether to start a family.
